EU Organisations

The EU is heavily involved in a plethora of programmes designed to foster growth and improve trade relations with Japan. Please take a moment to read about some of these initiatives below.

European Commission – Directorate-General Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs
The Industrial Policy Dialogue established between DG Enterprise and Industry and the Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), has been designed to foster co-operation with Japan as a key industrialised country in the Far East.

European Commission – Directorate-General Research & Innovation
The Directorate-General for Research and Innovation's mission is to develop and implement the European research and innovation policy with a view to achieving the goals of Europe 2020 and the Innovation Union.

Horizon 2020 is the financial instrument implementing the Innovation Union, a Europe 2020 flagship initiative aimed at securing Europe's global competitiveness.

European Commission – Directorate-General Communications Networks, Content and Technology
The DG helps to harness information & communications technologies in order to create jobs and generate economic growth; to provide better goods and services for all; and to build on the greater empowerment which digital technologies can bring in order to create a better world, now and for future generations. 

European Commission – External Action Service
Among its roles, the EEAS assists the President of the European Council and the President as well as the Members of the Commission in their respective functions in the area of external relations and ensures close cooperation with the Member States. Delegation of the European Union to Japan
This diplomatic mission has several aims, including representing the European Union, as appropriate, in Japan and informing the European Union on political, social, economic, external relations and trade developments in Japan and, in this regard, maintaining contact with the principal players in the fields of politics and public life generally, the economy, business, civil society and higher education.

European Business Council in Japan
The European Business Council (EBC) is the trade policy arm of 17 European National Chamber of Commerce and Business Associations in Japan and has been working to improve the trade and investment environment for European companies in Japan since 1972. 

Enterprise Europe Network - Japan
With over 600 partner organisations located in 52 countries, the Enterprise Europe Network is the largest network of contact points providing information and support for SMEs in the fields of international business cooperation, innovation, knowledge and technology transfer and cooperation in EU programmes. 

Eurostat
Eurostat is the statistical office of the European Union situated in Luxembourg. Its task is to provide the European Union with statistics at European level that enable comparisons between countries and regions. 

JEUPISTE
The JEUPISTE project aims at promoting EU-Japan cooperation in Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) through supports to policy dialogues, deployment of bilateral information services, organisation of networking events focusing on specific technologies and/or societal challenges, operation of help desk services and contribution to the development of human resources for collaborative projects.

EURAXESS
EURAXESS Links is a networking tool for European researchers working outside Europe and non-European ones wishing to collaborate and/or pursue a research career in Europe. 

International Network for SMEs - INSMEnews
The mission of this non-profit association is to stimulate transnational cooperation and public and private partnership in the field of innovation and technology transfer to SMEs.
